Our first speaker, based in the US, discusses the topic through examples of manufacturing for solid and hematological malignancies. Our second speaker brings experiences from a CAR-T cell company based in India to highlight the challenges in bringing the cell and gene therapy to a developing world.

Professor Narinder Mehra is the Honorary Emeritus scientist of ICMR, and former Dean and National Chair of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. After finishing his graduation from the Govt Medical College, Amritsar, he Joined AIIMS in 1969 to do Masters in Anatomy and then PhD. He joined the AIIMS Faculty in 1979, rose to become Sr Professor and then the Dean.

He is an internationally acclaimed expert in the area of Transplant Immunology and Clinical Immunogenetics, for which his singular efforts culminated in establishing this specialty for the first time in India, thus facilitating solid organ and hematopoietic stem cell transplants in the country.

Prof Mehra has been the President of the Indian Immunology Society, councilor for the International Union of Immunological Societies, co-chair of the IUIS Gender equality committee and founder Secretary-General of the Federation of Immunological Societies of Asia-Oceania. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Medical Sciences, Member Honoris Causa of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and ‘Fellow’ of The World Academy of Sciences (FTWAS). He served as chief Editor of ‘Frontiers in Immunology’ special issue on ‘Clinical relevance of antibodies in solid organ transplantation’.

Bringing extensive experience from working with biotechnology and solid dose manufacturing, Mr. Salcedo is a leader in the commercialization of cell and gene therapies, with proven expertise in Biologics Manufacturing, Regulatory, and Quality Control systems throughout the translational process. 


Dr. Anil Kamat, MD, FRCP, FRCPath, MBA
Head, Clinical Development, Immuneel Therapeutics
Bangalore, India

Dr. Anil Kamat is a recognized clinical leader in hematology, with extensive experience in both clinical and manufacturing contexts. He is head of clinical development at Immuneel Therapeutics, based in Bengalaru, India, and serves as a consultant haematologist for the UK National Health Service. 

Dr. Kamat is a member and contributor to several societies, including the International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy, the American Society of Hematology, and the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation.
