Master's Degree in EU ATMP Manufacturing

The International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy (ISCT) is proud to provide partial scholarships (coverage: 50%) for a total of 4 ISCT European Members to enroll in the 2025/2026 Master’s Degree or Specialization Degree in Manufacturing of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products, offered by the University of Granada / Andalusian Network for the design and translation of Advanced Therapies (ANd&tAT). The Master and Specialization degree programs are operated by a partnership between ANd&tAT and the University of Granada with scholarship funding from the ISCT Institute of Training & Development. The 2025/2026 is the third iteration of the scholarship program supported by ISCT.

Program structure and delivery:

  • Both the Master's and Specialization degrees include 12 online modules completed at each student’s pace between February 2025 and April 2026, supported by online discussions, engagement activities, and continuous instructor guidance.
  • The Master’s Degree also includes a 3-week practical GMP lab training at Línea IAVANTE (Fundación Progreso y Salud) in Granada, Spain.
  • Specialization Degree in Manufacturing of ATMPs: €4,500 / person
  • Master Degree in Manufacturing of ATMPs: €8,500 / person
Designed For

Professionals residing in Europe working or intending to work in GMP-compliant facilities producing cell therapy, gene therapy, or tissue-engineered products for human use.

  • Two ISCT European Members for the Specialization Degree: each receives a 50% tuition subsidy.
  • Two ISCT European Members for the Master Degree: each receives a 50% tuition subsidy.

Note: The remaining tuition balance is the responsibility of the selected scholar. Tuition does not include travel or accommodation for the Master Degree program.

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Reside in Europe
  • Hold an active ISCT membership for the duration of the program
  • Meet the student profile and requirements outlined in Section 2 of the Master Program 2025/2026 brochure
  • Apply best practices for sample collection, processing, and storage.
  • Understand the QA and regulatory requirements for CGT products.

  • A 1–2 page letter of application (maximum 1,000 words, Arial size 10). The letter should include background, training, CGT production experience/interest, and career goals. Priority will be given to clearly stated reasons for attending the program.
  • A current curriculum vitae (CV), preferably using the NIH Biographical Sketch format.
  • A one-page letter of recommendation.

UPON COMPLETION, YOU WILL RECEIVE:
  • Master Degree or Specialization Degree in Manufacturing of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products from the University of Granada
  • Certificate of Course Completion from ISCT

The Educational Program on Advanced Therapy Manufacturing is developed by ISCT in collaboration with the Andalusian Network for the Design and Translation of Advanced Therapies (ANd&tAT). The program includes an online self-evaluation test, and participants can obtain a “Certificate of Completion” after successfully completing the test.

Note: Completing all training modules and passing the quizzes is mandatory to receive the degree and course completion certificate.

Carolina has several years of experience across academia and the ATMP industry, with a strong focus on ATMP quality, regulatory strategy, and clinical development.
Through completion of this Master Degree programme, she aims to further develop expertise in advising on ATMP manufacturing to support successful marketing authorisation and to engage with regulatory bodies on quality-related development challenges.

Selena was educated at the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cell Biology. She began her career in academia with a focus on iPSC research before transitioning to industry.
She brings nearly a decade of experience in ATMP manufacturing across Asia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Through this Master degree programme, Selena looks forward to learning from peers and advancing therapies to reach more patients worldwide.

Roberto has more than 20 years of experience in academia, with a primary focus on human liver biology, pathology, and disease. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in planning, developing, and resolving methodological and regulatory challenges to translate cellular therapies into clinical practice.
His work has spanned Italy, the United States, and Sweden. At the Karolinska Institute, his group is actively translating novel stem cell therapies to the clinic, including first-in-field approaches enabling the injection of primary allogenic stem cells without immunosuppressive support.

Alejandro holds a Master of Pharmacy and an MSc in Advanced Therapies and Biotechnological Innovation. After experience in community pharmacy and research laboratories, he transitioned into the ATMP industry, gaining early experience in quality control at Catapult Cell & Gene Therapy.
In 2019, he joined Advent Bioservices Ltd, a biopharmaceutical CDMO specializing in ATMPs, where he has since worked within the Quality Assurance team. Through completion of this Master Degree programme with a specialization as Qualified Person, Alejandro aims to meet statutory requirements to assume a QP role and contribute to the development and commercialization of ATMPs.

Miriam López-Parra is a hematologist and Qualified Person at the GMP Facility of the University Hospital of Salamanca, and a researcher at the Institute of Biomedical Research of Salamanca.
Through this Master Degree programme, Miriam aims to address one of her key upcoming challenges, the development of a new Cellular Production Unit at her hospital.

Katja Sirviö has 20 years of experience across academia and the ATMP industry. Her background includes stem cell research in neurodegenerative diseases at the University of Eastern Finland, as well as the development of novel cell therapies for solid cancers at Finvector and the Kuopio Center for Gene and Cell Therapy.
Through the Master in Manufacturing of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products, Katja aims to strengthen her expertise to support the translation of future therapies to patients.

Established in 2023, the ISCT Institute of Training & Development is the first global body dedicated to identifying and addressing critical skills gaps in cell and gene therapy. ANd&tAT
ANd&tAT is affiliated with the Public Healthcare System of Andalusia and supports implementation of cell and gene technologies, including regenerative medicine treatments, within Andalusian public healthcare. The organization coordinates laboratories, clinical trials, and ATMP use in the region, and provides related training plus strategic and consultation-based support.

Línea IAVANTE is affiliated with the Ministry of Health within the Regional Government of Andalusia. It supports the development and training of health professionals and deploys physical and virtual reality-based simulations that replicate healthcare environments, including ATMP manufacturing.
