Master's Degree in EU ATMP Manufacturing

The International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy (ISCT) is proud to provide partial scholarships (coverage: 50%) for a total of 4 ISCT European Members to enroll in the 2025/2026 Master’s Degree or Specialization Degree in Manufacturing of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products, offered by the University of Granada / Andalusian Network for the design and translation of Advanced Therapies (ANd&tAT).

The Master and Specialization degree programs are operated by a partnership between ANd&tAT and the University of Granada with scholarship funding from the ISCT Institute of Training & Development. The 2025/2026 is the third iteration of the scholarship program supported by ISCT.

COURSE CONTENT
  • Both Master's and Specialization degrees will include 12 online modules for students to complete at their pace between Feb 2025-April 2026, with online discussions and activities to promote engagement as well as continuous support from instructors and professors through the course.

  • Master Degree will also include a 3-week practical GMP lab training at Línea IAVANTE’s (Fundación Progreso y Salud) in Granada, Spain for scholars to gain hands-on technical expertise necessary to manufacture ATMPs for clinical use. 
TUITION COST
  • Specialization Degree in Manufacturing of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products: €4,500/person
  • Master Degree in Manufacturing of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products: €8,500/person

SCHOLARSHIP ALLOCATION
  • Two ISCT European Members towards Specialization Degree in Manufacturing of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products: Each selected scholar will receive 50% tuition scholarship subsidy from ISCT
  • Two ISCT European Members towards Master Degree in Manufacturing of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products: Each selected scholar will receive 50% tuition scholar subsidy from ISCT

Note: The remaining balance will be the selected scholar's responsibility. Tuition does not cover travel expenses and accommodation for the Master degree program.

Professionals residing in Europe working or intending to work in GMP-compliant facilities producing cell therapy, gene therapy, or tissue-engineered products for human use.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must: 

  • Reside in Europe
  • Hold an active ISCT membership and maintain it throughout the duration of the Master's/Specialization program. 
  • Meet the student profile and requirements outlined in Section 2 of the Master Program 2025/2026 brochure.
UPON COMPLETION, YOU WILL RECEIVE:
  • Certificates of Course Completion from ISCT

The Educational Program on Advanced Therapy Manufacturing is developed by ISCT in collaboration with the Andalusian Network for the Design and Translation of Advanced Therapies (ANd&tAT). The program includes an online self-evaluation test, and participants can obtain a "Certificate of Completion" after successfully completing the test.

Note: Completing all training modules and passing the quizzes is mandatory to receive a course completion certificate.

  • A 1-2 page letter of application (maximum 1,000 words, Arial, font size 10). The letter should provide the applicant’s background, training, interest/ experience in cell and gene therapy production, and career goals. Particular attention and weighting will be placed on the applicant’s reasons for attending the programme.
  • A current curriculum vitae (CV), preferably in the NIH Biographical Sketch format.
  • A one-page letter of recommendation.

Roberto has over 20 years of experience working in academia, with a primary interest in investigating human liver biology, pathology, and disease. During his career, Roberto has played a prominent role in planning, developing and finalizing all the methodological and regulatory issues to translate cellular therapies into clinics, first in Italy, then in the USA, and now at Karolinska Institute. 

At the Karolinska Institute, his group is active in translating such new stem cell therapy to the clinic, where for the first time, they can inject primary allogenic stem cells without immunosuppression in support.

Carolina has several years of experience working in academia and the ATMP industry, focusing on ATMP quality, regulatory and clinical development. 

Upon completing this Master Degree programme, Carolina looks forward to acquiring expertise and knowledge to advise on ATMP manufacturing development to succeed in the marketing authorisation, and exchange quality-related issues with regulatory bodies to address development challenges.

Selena was educated at the University of California, Berkeley with a bachelor’s in Molecular and Cell Biology. She began her professional career in academia with a focus on iPSC research before moving to industry where she gained almost a decade of experience in ATMP manufacturing across Asia, USA, and the UK. 
  
Through this Master degree, Selena is looking forward to connecting and learning from professionals in the programme and together bring new therapies for more patients in the future.

Alejandro Barquero holds a Master of Pharmacy and an MSc in Advanced Therapies & Biotechnological Innovation. After working in the community pharmacy and research laboratories, he decided to step into the blooming ATMP industry, having a first rewarding experience working in QC for Catapult Cell & Gene Therapy. In 2019 Alejandro joined Advent Bioservices Ltd, biopharmaceutical CDMO specialized in ATMPs, where he has been working as part of the Quality Assurance team ever since.

At the time of completing this Master Degree programme with a specialization as Qualified Person, Alejandro looks forward to being in the position to meet the statutory requirements to assume a QP role within his organization and help in the development and commercialization of ATMPs.

Katja Sirviö has 20 years experience working in academic and ATMP industry. She has experience on stem cell research in neurodegenerative diseases at the University of Eastern Finland as well as developing novel cell therapies for solid cancers in Finvector and Kuopio Center for Gene and Cell Therapy.

The Master in Manufacturing of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products will provide the essential knowledge for Katja to participate in bringing future therapies to the patients.



PARTICIPATING ORGANIZATIONS

This degree program is operated by a partnership of two organizations, the Andalusian Network for the design and translation of Advanced Therapies (ANd&tAT), and the University of Granada, in collaboration with Línea IAVANTE.

  • ISCT Institute of Training & Development: Established in 2023, The ISCT Institute of Training & Development is the first global body dedicated to identifying and addressing critical skills gaps in cell and gene therapy. Leveraging our network of more than 4,000 global ISCT subject matter experts and key opinion leaders from academia, industry, and regulatory sectors, the Institute develops sector-focused, internationally recognized accredited programs. Our programs are governed by the Institute’s Program Advisory Board and Workforce Development Committee to ensure they remain current and in line with the latest developments in the sector.

  • ANd&tAT is an organization affiliated with the Public Healthcare System of Andalusia, and works towards the implementation of cell and gene technologies and theories, including regenerative medicine treatments, within Andalusian public healthcare. ANd&tAT has done significant work to coordinate laboratories, clinical trials, and ATMP use in the region, and offers related training as well as strategic and consultation-based support.

  • The University of Granada is an institution that dates back to 1531, serving over 80,000 students across its programs. Well-respected for the quality of its teaching and research, the university is focused on integrated cooperation and development in society.

  • Línea IAVANTE is an organization affiliated with the Ministry of Health within the Regional Government of Andalusia. Working to facilitate and promote the development and training of health professionals, IAVANTE deploys physical and virtual reality-based simulations that faithfully replicate healthcare environments, including ATMP manufacturing.
