It has now been nine months since the EBMT General Assembly, at the Annual Meeting in Florence, formally approved JACIE as an EBMT Working Party. While this change may at first glance appear largely semantic, it in fact represents a significant milestone in JACIE’s integration within EBMT governance.
As a recognised Working Party, JACIE now holds the same rights and responsibilities as other EBMT Working Parties. All Working Parties contribute to EBMT’s scientific and educational mission through the development of guidelines and policies, and by supporting scientific output and educational activities. Many of these elements have long been central to JACIE’s work; however, Working Party status brings with it both an opportunity and a responsibility to further strengthen JACIE’s scientific contributions in areas aligned with its remit.
Oversight and strategic direction of JACIE’s operational and scientific activities will continue to be provided by the JACIE Working Party Board, assuming the role previously held by the JACIE Committee. The Board is composed of the Chairs of the JACIE Committees, ISCT representatives, and leads of key task forces and projects, such as benchmarking. Inspectors, Quality Managers and the Quality Assurance Committee remain integral to JACIE’s activities and are represented at Board level through their respective Committee Chairs.
A particularly important development is that the Chair of the JACIE Working Party now sits on the EBMT Scientific Council alongside the Chairs of other EBMT Working Parties. This marks the first time that JACIE has formal representation within EBMT’s governance structure, providing a direct opportunity to contribute to shaping both the future direction of EBMT and the strategic evolution of JACIE itself.
JACIE Working Party status builds on an already strong track record in education and in the development of policies and guidelines, most notably through the FACT-JACIE Standards. At the same time, it highlights the need to further develop scientific output relevant to quality management and accreditation within the field.
One of the first visible signs of this transition will be at the EBMT Annual Meeting 2026 in Madrid. In addition to the established full-day Quality Management programme, the meeting will feature the first JACIE Working Party Educational Session, as well as a JACIE Working Party Business Meeting. We look forward to welcoming colleagues to these JACIE sessions in Madrid and to continuing this next phase of JACIE’s development within EBMT.
