Member Spotlight: Roberto Gramignoli

ISCT Telegraft Member Spotlights is proud to feature Roberto Gramignoli, Ph.D.

In this first feature of 2025. Dr. Gramignoli is an Associate Professor at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, and the Head of the Department of Cell Therapies at the Gaslini Hospital in Genoa, Italy. His lab group focuses on the translation of novel cellular therapies into the clinic and has been instrumental in leading the characterization and translation of amnion epithelial cells into use in clinical trials. Dr. Gramignoli has also been involved in every step of the novel therapeutic development pipeline and has a deep appreciation for all things to do with manufacturing.

Notably, Dr. Gramignoli is also a graduate of the outstanding ISCT program that awards a specialization or master’s degree in European Manufacturing of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). In his conversation with Telegraft editor, Ashley Krull, Ph.D., he shares his experiences in cell therapy, his many highs and few lows from the EU ATMP program, and the best endorsement we have ever heard for the many educational offerings of ISCT.

Dr. Gramignoli also wanted to highlight the upcoming 18th International Congress of the Cell Transplant and Regenerative Medicine Society (CTRMS) taking place in Tokyo, Japan, on October 22-25th, 2025. In particular, he highlighted the involvement of ISCT representatives in a special session bringing together experts from ISCT, ISSCR, and TERMIS along with CTRMS which emphasizes the congress’s keyword of “Connect” and mission to foster interactions to promote knowledge, expedite implementation of advances, and promote true progress and innovation. All ISCT members, and especially early-stage professionals, will not want to miss this fantastic discussion.
